Abstract
AbstractFibrillar crystals of polyethylene are prepared by stirring solutions of the polymer in xylene at elevated temperatures. Extraction of these crystals with xylene at controlled temperatures is a convenient method of preparing narrow fractions of linear polyethylene of molecular weights below 105. Higher molecular weight fractions were readily obtained by column fractionation but not by the extraction of fibrillar crystals.
