Abstract
Abstract In ducts leading to nephelometers, the impact of large aerosol particles on the walls changes the scattering properties of the turbid air under investigation. The quantitative relationship between the upper boundary radius of the particles and the scattering coefficients or visibilities measured by the nephelometer is given for power law size distributions of the aerosol particles. It follows that the loss of large particles influences the measuring accuracy of nephelometers only slightly.
