Abstract

In this paper, the ergodic capacity of multihop MIMO-OFDM Amplify-and-Forward (AF) relay network in the presence of High Power Amplifiers (HPAs) nonlinearity is investigated. We consider multihop MIMO-OFDM AF relay network where the transmitter, relays, and the receiver are all equipped with multiple transmitting and multiple receiving antennas, and the HPAs at the transmitter and relays exhibit general nonlinear behaviors. A closed-form expression for the ergodic capacity of the system is derived. It is shown that more capacity loss is experienced in multihop relaying due to HPAs nonlinearity as more relay hops are involved. It is also observed that high order MIMO systems suffer more capacity loss due to HPA nonlinearity than low-order MIMO systems. Our analysis complements existing works in the literature, where the effects of HPA on the error rate performance of MIMO systems have been documented.
