Abstract

The terms “Chinese English” and “Chinglish” have always been confusing to most people. As a new variety of English, Chinese English is quite different from Chinglish. In order to make a distinction between them, different definitions are mentioned so as to know what Chinese English and Chinglish really are. Chinese English is featured with great Chinese characteristics and its characteristics will be analyzed in details. There are three characteristics for the two terms respectively. Later different formation manners between Chinese English and Chinglish are examined at length. Finally a correlation between the two terms is discussed briefly. The above-mentioned analysis aims to offer some implication to a more comprehensive understanding of Chinese English and Chinglish in ELT practice in China.
