Abstract

The optimization problem of finding minimum or maximum of the quadratic function Q(x) = xT Cx subject to the constraint xT x = 1 is considered in this paper. Using specific characteristics of this problem, it is solved by using Cauchy-Schwarz inequality, combined with properties of the induced matrix norms.
