Abstract

The planar shock response of porcine skeletal muscle tissue has been investigated using the plate-impact technique in conjunction with manganin foil pressure gauge diagnostics. This has allowed for in-situ measurement of the uniaxial stress levels imparted to the tissue by the shock wave and the formation of an equation-of-state for the material. Structural changes to the tissue due to the passage of the shock are discussed in context with experimental results.
