Abstract
Guest Editor's Introduction: This paper was presented at the International Symposium on Plasma Exchange, Cologne, June 6–7, 1980. It was printed in its proceedings, Plasma Exchange Plasmapheresis and Plasmaseparation, (ed) Sieberth H.G., 1980, pages 133–139. It was published by F.K. Schattauer Verlag, Stuttgart, Germany. This paper describes the first clinical application of cryofiltration. The efficiency of double filtration was enhanced by keeping the plasma fractionator filter (cryofilter) at near zero temperature. Cryogel is formed inside the cryofilter and selective removal of macromolecules was achieved without any supplemental albumin supplement.
