Abstract

We construct orthogonal grids on meander-like regions, similar to riverbeds. The two boundaries of a meander-like region are fitted with segment pairs of lemniscates using standard nonlinear least squares MATLAB functions. We present as examples a long section of a river (composed of about sixty lemniscatic segments) and a flattened section of an aorta. The resulting grids are evaluated using standard grid quality parameters: the average aspect ratio, the maximum aspect ratio, and the average deviation from orthogonality and the maximum deviation from orthogonality.
