Abstract A more careful analysis has been made of the galactic density waves near the corotation region where the wave pattern speeds are the same as the local circular speed of the disk. We have removed some ambiguities that occurred in previous solutions due to the assumption of a single wave picture. After certain mathematical transformations were performed, a reduced form of the wave gravitational potential is now found to satisfy a turning-point differential equation. This equation involves two turning points in a manner analogous to those which occur in the quantummechanical problem of wave-tunneling through a parabolic potential barrier. As is the case for the quantum-mechanical analog, the improved density wave solutions involve the interaction of several waves near corotation.
