Abstract

The study of off-mass-shell amplitudes in the α(0) = 1 Veneziano model is continued. A formula for the scalar analog of virtual Compton scattering is derived and the deep-inelastic and Regge limits are investigated. For suitable choice of a parameter, it is demonstrated that a scaling law (of the Bjorken type) holds, even though the hadrons of the model contain no point-like structures. Regge poles and fixed poles of the appropriate type are also found. All these desirable results emerge despite the fact that they have not been built into the construction in any obvious way. The few remaining problems - logarithmic divergences and conflicting constraints on the dimension of space-time — are quite plausibly attributable to deficiencies of the particular dual model rather than the approach to constructing currents.
