Abstract

In Australia odor modeling is the preferred method for assessing odor impacts from meat chicken farms. New or expanding farms typically require a site specific odor impact assessment that demonstrate that the operation will have no adverse odor impacts. These are required prior to gaining approval from the regulatory agencies. This paper summarizes a standard approach used for odor impact assessments namely: odor emissions estimation, meteorological modeling and dispersion modeling. The results of the dispersion modeling has processed to enable a comparison between the different regulatory approaches used in Australia.
