Abstract

The work of the Laboratories is conducted in three places: The main Laboratory situated on the shore of Lake Union on the University Campus; the Laboratory situated at Friday Harbor, Washington, which is on San Juan Island about eighty miles north of Seattle and east of Victoria, British Columbia; and on board the Laboratory research‐boat, the Catalyst. The Laboratory at Seattle is in operation during the entire year. The Laboratory at Friday Harbor is in partial operation during the entire year but serves largely as a summer laboratory and as a base for the summer operation of the research‐boat. This Laboratory, in addition to serving the needs of the staff and our students, has been used by many visiting scientists from different parts of the United States and Canada. Research is carried on in physics, chemistry, zoology, bacteriology, and botany. Following are some of the general activities in which the Laboratories were engaged during March 1, 1933 to March 1, 1934.
