Abstract
A BELT of Durvillea is a conspicuous feature of the upper sub-littoral to lowermost littoral zone of the coast of Chatham Island, as is usual in southern waters. On those parts of the coast visited, the dominant species is one with a solid lamina and not the D. antarctica (Chamisso) Hariot which is the dominant species on the coasts of New Zealand approximately five hundred miles to the west.
