Abstract

Results of twenty-four-hour urine samples collected from individuals exposed to low-level gamma and neutron radiation for a period of 15 days after exposure and analyzed for amino acid content are discussed. Among the amino acids identified were cystine, histidine, alanine, serine, glycine, giutamic acid, and leucine. All were excreted within the normal range; thus it was concluded that the radiation exposure did not significantly alter the quantitative output of the observed amino acids in the individuals. Other accident subjects were also studied. The results were in agreement with the generally accepted view that exposure to ionizing radiation may give rise to a variable aminoaciduria. (P.C.H.)
