Abstract

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) was established in 1968 as a division of Tata Sons Ltd (Tata Group). TCS is one of the biggest Indian software companies: it specialises in IT consultancy, services, and business process outsourcing, and is recognised among the 25 top IT consultancy companies in the world. TCS employs over 120,000 people in 42 countries, and it has 26 development centres all over the world: in India (11 centres), USA (eight centres), Canada, UK, Uruguay, Hungary, Australia, China and Japan. Sixteen of these centres have been assessed as operating at Level 5 maturity on the Software Engineering Institute’s Capability Maturity Model (SEI CMM) scale. The main TCS industry practices include banking, financial services and insurance, telecom, manufacturing, transportation, and retail and consumer goods. The main service practices of TCS include e-business, architecture and technology consultancy, process consultancy, and application development and maintenance. TCS reported total revenues of $5.7 billion in 2008.
