Abstract

Successful culture of several species of marine calanoid copepods has been reported (Jacobs, 1961; Mullin and Brooks, 1967; Zillioux and Wilson, 1961), however, culture of freshwater calonoid copepods has not. During 1962-63, two species of freshwater calanoid copepods, Diaptomus siciloides and Diaptomvs clavipes, were cultured. D. siciloides was reared through second generation in three of 32 initial cultures and third generation in one of three secondary cultures. D. clavipes was reared through second generation in one of nine initial cultures. Although the success in culturing was meager, the results merit attention since D. siciloides is a widely studied species.
