Abstract

Real-time applications of artificial intelligence (AI) and real-time knowledge-based systems (KBSs) are arguably one of the most important and challenging categories of AI applications. Many techniques that have been successfuly applied to non-real-time systems need to be enhanced to accommodate strict real-time requirements. In this paper, important issues of real-time KBSs are addressed. Previous related research workisexamined, andstrategiesfor dealing with real-time requirements are discussed. Object-oriented (00) techniques are introduced that are used to model realtime application domains and to implement the real-time problem-solving strategies. It shows that 00 methods can play an important role in real-time AI applications.
