Abstract

Nursery schools provide educational programs for young children, generally aged 2 to 4, prior to school‐starting age. Historically, nursery schools offered a combination of care and education for poor children using play‐oriented teaching strategies and focusing on socialization. The current trend is for nursery education, now called early childhood education, to be included in a comprehensive program of early childhood services or as part of state‐run schools as a noncompulsory preprimary class.
