Abstract

Kevin S. Guise, Associate Professor in the Department of Animal Science, University of Minnesota, died February 12, 1991, following an extended illness. He was born in Kettering, Ohio on February 7, 1950. Guise received his B.S. degree, summa cum laude, in Botany from the University of Rhode Island in 1972. He completed his M. Phil. (1978) and Ph.D. (1981), both in biology and somatic cell genetics, at Yale University. Guise was Postdoctoral Research Fellow from 1981 to 1984 in the Genetics Department, Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He joined the faculty at the University of Minnesota in 1984. Despite his tragically short career, Kevin Guise established an internationally recognized research program in molecular genetics. His many friends, colleagues, and students will miss his leadership, dedication, cooperative spirit, friendship, and loyalty.Guise chose to investigate the basic molecular genetics of growth-promoting genes as well as the development of methods .
