Abstract

The present work summarizes a numerical study on supersonic dilute gas jets in open as well as in bounded domain. Two objectives have been followed: the first is to characterize the freezing of the jets in the vacuum from the point of view of the rarefaction parameters at the exit of the nozzle. The second goal is to analyze the influence of finite ratios P0/P∞ of the nozzle exit pressure over the far field one on the modes and the damping coefficients of regular pressure waves Mach disks for free jets as well as semi confined ones. Calculations are based on the BGK model taking into account three degrees of freedom. Two‐dimension preliminary calculations are performed for two distinct cases : free jet flow into a vacuum and confined jet.
