Abstract

Through the numerical simulation of the internal flow field of the thrust bearing, the distribution of the oil membrane pressure field was calculated using the CFD software Fluent. The effect made by inclination angle and rotor speed on the thrust bearing performance was analyzed. The results show that the inclination angle has a strong impact in pumped storage units. Only when the inclination of the circular direction reaches a certain value, with the increase of the circular inclination, the bearing capacity of the oil film gradually increases, and the pressure center moves to the oil outlet. With the increase of the rotor speed, the bearing capacity of the oil film gradually increases, and the pressure center remains unchanged. Therefore, in the limit of the minimum oil film thickness, running at large inclination angles and rotor speed can improve the performance.
