Abstract

We consider quasi-two-dimensional rapidly dissipating mesoscale atmospheric vortices generated over the Black Sea near the Crimean and Caucasian coasts. Based on the results of numerical modeling for a characteristic example of the Crimean eddy, we determine its structure and parameters and estimate the rate of decay of kinetic energy and enstrophy. In addition to the large-scale secondary circulation in the vortex, we also consider a small-scale secondary circulation induced by Raleigh-Benard convection.
