Abstract
A refined numerical technique for the evaluation of the complex refractive index of metals from measurements of the absolute reflectances and transmittance of a thin film is described. The technique makes use both of the Fortran language facility in the manipulation of complex numbers and of a modern rapid-convergence minimization procedure. The results of the application of the technique to the evaluation both of data from the literature and measurements obtained from an absolute photometer are also discussed.
