Abstract

The turbulence eddy dissipation and shear stress of the flotation cell influence the bubble breakup. The flotation rate constant is correlated with bubble surface area flux, which depends on the bubble size and dispersion characteristics. In this study, numerical analysis was performed on the turbulence characteristics and shear stress according to the stator-rotor clearance of the flotation cell. The fluid and turbulence characteristics in Case 1 with 0.2 clearance were large velocity gradient and high turbulence eddy dissipation. As the rotor passed through the gap region of the stator, velocity gradient occurred and turbulence eddy dissipation was about 90% higher than Case 4 with 0.4 clearance. Therefore, as a result of numerical analysis, it was found that narrow clearance between the rotor and stator promotes high turbulence eddy dissipation and shear stress.
