Abstract

The genus Craugastor, commonly called barking frogs, is very diverse. In Mexico it is usually distributed in restricted areas, climates and types of vegetation. On the contrary, Craugastor occidentalis has an extraordinarily wide distribution that covers various states of the country, extending over very different climates and vegetation types. We make an extensive review of the species, complementing and updating its distribution map, and we report new records of the coastal barking frog for Morelos and Puebla, extending its distribution to the easternmost part of the Mexican Republic.
