Abstract
In this work, we present anew records of pinnipeds recovered from archaeological sites associated with complex hunter-gatherers that occupied the southernmost part of the Plata Basin during the pre-Columbian Late Holocene. Additionally, we review and provide new information on pinniped remains previously reported in an earlier study, incorporating findings made by other researchers. Collectively, the data reinforce the idea that the marine mammals recovered from the sites in the region were occasional prey obtained from the estuary's shorelines and adjacent river courses, where they were hunted or scavenged. The age profile of the specimens analyzed shows that, in general, they correspond to sub-adult individuals, which were stranded in different sectors of the estuary of the Río de la Plata, as also happens today.
