Nuevas fronteras de la movilidad y de las migraciones: : un análisis teórico-empírico
Traditional studies of migration assumed that migrants brought with them a strong sense of place, of the territory of origin and the territory of destination, as well as an uni-directional sense of a return project. Therefore, the current mobility concept is not new, but different due to the emphasis on movement in relation with communications in real-time, on the intense movement of goods, as well as in the instant information conveyed by digital technologies. These are changes in a phenomenon which have brought the emergence of new theoretical paradigms. The objective of this article is to show how migration theories explain current social inequalities, configured as new borders of mobilities and migrations, resulting from new population dynamics linked to the population mobility of people under the light of two brief illustrative cases.

The approach of promoting a destination through native resources is intriguing. This research attempted to assess the role of native species in contributing to the success of a destination through their contribution to sense of place. It illustrated the mechanisms and preconditions through which native species can contribute to the distinctiveness of a destination. This research has uncovered a number of factors explaining the potential of a native species to become a viable contributor to a destination's sense of place. In a nutshell, a prospective native species can potentially become a viable option with which a destination can build its sense of place and overall identity if that particular species has a strong biological foundation in the natural environment; if it has been embraced or endeared by residents through social and historical processes; and if there are ample opportunities for tourists to experience and interact with it, through which endearment among tourists and a strong sense of place can be built. The Provençal cicada was used as an illustrative case. The adoption of the cicada by Bouches-du-Rhône tourism as a regional symbol and for use in its communications reinforces the cicada's contribution to the destination's identity and sense of place.

This paper argues that disability activism and politics can be seen as paradigmatic for the wider debates on the philosophies, forms, and formats embedded in technologies. Firstly, the paper discusses disability activism movements that use digital technology to intervene into digital technology, especially in the social media area. In both cases, activists seek to use the platforms themselves to argue for, and obtain, greater accessibility, customisability, and configurability, of the platform for users with disabilities. Yet there is a clear clash between philosophies embedded within these social media platforms, and the aspirations and values of many of the activist strands of disability. Secondly, the paper explores the use of digital technologies by disability activism movements in relation to welfare and work reforms—notably the UK struggles in the 2010–2014 periods. Here disability activists have made extensive use of digital media technologies, and we discuss their innovations, and the lessons they offer.

Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) remain the leading cause of death and disability worldwide. Digital health technologies are important public health interventions for addressing the burden of cardiovascular disease. In this article, we discuss the importance of translating digital innovations in research-funded projects to low-resource settings globally to advance global cardiovascular health equity. We also discuss current global cardiovascular health inequities and the digital health divide within and between countries. We present various considerations for translating digital innovations across different settings across the globe, including reciprocal innovation, a "bidirectional, co-constituted, and iterative exchange of ideas, resources, and innovations to address shared health challenges across diverse global settings." In this case, afferent reciprocal innovations may flow from high-income countries toward low- and middle-income countries, and efferent reciprocal innovations may be exported to high-income countries from low- and middle-income countries with adaptation. Finally, we discuss opportunities for bidirectional learning between local and global institutions and highlight examples of projects funded through the American Heart Association Health and Innovation Strategically Funded Research Network that have been adapted to lower-resource settings or have the potential to be adapted to lower-resource settings.

Beginning in 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic limited onsite international activities and challenged us to plan and implement new ways of collaboration. We reviewed our online trials during a three-year period to better understand how to use digital technologies to continue knowledge and skills transfer. In this cross-national case study, we compare two illustrative cases: Japanese experts training Indonesian health professionals for participatory school health education, and Swiss experts training Malagasy health providers for respectful obstetric and newborn emergencies. We first describe our cases, referring to Vargo’s framework for summarizing reports on digital technology usage. Second, we draw commonalities between the two cases. Third, gleaned from these experiences during the pandemic, we offer a practical framework for efficient and effective international collaboration using new technologies. For both cases, basic digital technologies, such as online meetings and e-mailing, were used and training sessions were successfully conducted. Trusting relationships between the training and participant groups were in place before the pandemic. This led to enthusiasm for continuing learning even after the pandemic started. Our case comparison presents the usefulness of digital technologies for continuing international collaboration and highlights the importance of human factors, such as trusting relationships and enthusiasm to pursue a shared goal, as the basic condition for success.

This paper takes an interdisciplinary approach combining digital education with disability theory to investigate disabled children's digital use practices for formal learning. Evidence suggests that children's lives have been transformed through engagement with digital technologies, eg, computers, laptops and mobile devices. Even so, empirical studies about disabled children's uses of technology remain limited, particularly studies that engage with disabled children's own views in context. In response, an exploratory, participatory research study was designed to gain up‐to‐date insights into how visually impaired children, as an illustrative case, experienced digital technologies for learning within the context of inclusive education policy. Disabled children and teachers were interviewed in mainstream schools in England; results were analysed using social practice theory to identify digital use practices characterised as digital learning and digital accessibility practices alongside children's experiences. Outcomes were mixed. Youngsters saw benefits to using digital technologies, particularly tablets, for learning. Nevertheless, digital accessibility practices were potentially stigmatising and carried an extra task load to overcome barriers that occurred when teachers had not developed inclusive digital pedagogy. The paper discusses the implications of these findings and calls for further research to guide schools to use digital technologies to support inclusion.

Background: Intraoral scanners have become increasingly popular for final dental prostheses due to their precision, efficiency, and patient-friendly approach. However, their use for capturing final impressions of highly esthetic and thin restorations, such as ceramic veneers, presents unique challenges. Veneer preparations differ significantly from traditional full-coverage crowns, with their smaller and more delicate margins often located at or below the gingival level. This complexity may lead to hesitancy among clinicians regarding the routine use of intraoral scanners in such cases. Methods: A comprehensive literature review was performed to evaluate the effectiveness of intraoral scanners for final digital impressions in ceramic veneer restorations within the esthetic zone. Studies published between January 2010 and January 2025 were included in the review. Additionally, a case illustration was provided, detailing the use of an intraoral scanner to capture final impressions for a patient requiring 10 ceramic veneers in the esthetic zone. Results: The review demonstrated that intraoral scanning is a reliable technique for veneer impressions, delivering clinically acceptable outcomes. The benefits include enhanced patient comfort, improved workflow efficiency, and a reduction in chairside time. Nonetheless, clinicians must overcome a learning curve with digital technologies and ensure optimal conditions, such as maintaining a dry tooth surface during scanning. The presented case successfully illustrated the use of intraoral scanning, resulting in precise impressions and the fabrication of highly esthetic and functional veneers. Conclusions: Intraoral scanning is a predictable and effective method for capturing final impressions for veneer restorations. It offers results comparable to traditional methods while enhancing patient experience and enabling the fabrication of high-quality restorations within an efficient workflow.

The evolution of technological achievements in agriculture has been summarized based on their development from traditional systems to the concepts of “Agricultural 5.0” and “Agricultural 6.0”, innovative products of their implementation are highlighted. The concept of “Agriculture 4.0” and its main tools are highlighted: sensor technologies, high-speed mobile communications, big data analytics, sensor technologies, artificial intelligence, robotics. It is emphasized that digital agriculture includes digital and geospatial technologies for monitoring, assessing and managing soil, climate and genetic resources, and the digital data generated by them is a type of business resource. It is argued that digital technologies have combined all technological processes of agri-food production and goods movement into an integrated value chain, which has changed the implementation of business processes. The positive and negative impacts of digitalization on the resulting indicators of agricultural development are summarized. It is substantiated that the concept of «Agricultural 5.0» is a new approach to the development of agriculture, the main technological solutions of which are the robotics use, technologies of «augmented or augmented reality», 6G technologies, AI, big data, biotechnology, microrobots, biological robotic systems. The impact of this model on increasing the efficiency of production activities, implementing the principles of sustainable development, improving technological processes, minimizing losses in technological processes, food waste at the consumption stage, as well as the introduction of methods for controlling emissions of harmful substances is systematized. The promising concept of «Agricultural 6.0» of integrative agriculture and its main elements are characterized: regenerative farming systems, circular economy, biorevolution, biofuels and bioenergy, carbon credits, etc. It is proven that this model contributes to achieving the sustainability of agricultural production and increasing human well-being based on the rational and sustainable use of natural resources. It is emphasized that domestic agricultural production is at the stage of transition to a digital agriculture model, which involves changes in practices and methods of implementing technological operations at the level of all participants in the agri-food supply chain. It is substantiated that the strategic development of Ukrainian agriculture should be oriented towards the implementation of modern innovative models, which requires the development of appropriate strategic programs with an effective set of organizational and economic tools and measures to achieve innovative and sustainable development of the industry. Over the last decade in Britain, dominant media narratives and populist representations have played a significant dual role representing migration as a crisis and reducing migrants’ identities to racialised stereotypes. In response to these representational and discursive exlusions, I take a bottom-up approach by turning attention to how migrant women, as subjects of racialised and gendered marginalisation, use digital technologies for communication, representation, and recognition. Drawing upon an interdisciplinary framework that encompasses media studies, urban studies, diaspora studies, and migration studies, and by employing a rich ethnographic approach, I explore how migrant women originally from Turkey, Somalia, and Romania, now living in London, mediate their cultural identities at the intersections of urban and digital spaces. Driven by the voices and the experiences of such migrant women, my thesis contributes to the growing body of scholarly work that examines the relationships between diaspora, migration, and digital media, by further elaborating upon how the interplay of urban and technological dynamics co-constitutes gendered diasporic identities. \n I argue that migrant women use digital media technologies as resources through which they position themselves and move across different spheres of belonging, simultaneously mediating their identities as urban, national, and transnational entities. Whilst identity and belonging mutually constitute a complex articulation of subjectivity, their actions of (self-) emplacement and mobility within multi-spatial geographies should be understood and contextualised in relation to the micro-politics of everyday life that materialise in the city. In line with this, I suggest that diasporic migrant women’s mediation of cultural identities can be understood through the notion of translocal modes of belonging. This notion recognises how migrant women use digital media to invoke varying alliances, aesthetics, and identity performances for self-positioning and mobility in relation to the structured power geometries that exist within a multi-spatial framework. \nThe intervention I make in this thesis is three-fold. Empirically, I present an intersectional and contextualised account of the relationship between gendered diasporic experiences and digital technology, exploring how the interplay of ethnicity, race, religion, social class, and generation has concrete implications for the situated, everyday life-worlds of migrant women. Methodologically, I adopt a mixed-methods approach by combining qualitative and quantitative methodologies in order to examine diasporic cultural identity production in the context of an online-offline continuum that traverses the intersections between urban and digital spaces. In this context, I demonstrate a methodological trajectory that aims to uncover how this hybrid space—one that encompasses both material and digital streets—becomes reflexive of the gendered, racialised, religious, classed, and generational positions that migrant women adopt. Conceptually, I propose translocational modes of belonging as a means by which to understand how, on urban, national, and transnational scales, the social positionalities of migrant women vary due to shifting, complex power geometries, and how they use digital technologies to develop collective identities and relations of inclusion and exclusion accordingly in a reflexive manner.

This chapter offers insight into the making of the arts and heritage project Mapping Memory Routes of Moroccan Communities as a case study in the wider exploratory research on the application of digital interactive technologies in migration and critical heritage studies. Focusing on the process leading to the creation of the immersive multisensory installation Zelige Door on Golborne Road, it shows how digital interactive arts can contribute to open up a critical and timely space for effective intercultural dialogue amongst different communities, and how this can stimulate a re-evaluation of our interconnected histories and identities beyond heavily stereotyped visual and symbolic representations of “others.” The analysis aims to generate new ideas on the role that participation and digital technologies can play in developing research in contested and precarious social situations.

With the development of information technology, digitalization has become a global trend of social development - technologies and knowledge are updated at an incredible speed. Under digital transformation, universities, as the foundation for training specialists and the engine of scientific-technological progress, should adapt to social changes, keep up with the development of technologies and apply information innovations to improve their management system and human resources. The article presents the general vector of development of the higher education management in China under digital transformation by reviewing its trends in Chinese universities, analyzing their current situation, problems and prospects for introducing digital management elements. Four Chinese higher education institutions of different levels were selected as illustrative cases, and the “typical examples of the development and application of the educational management informatization tools using digital technologies in 2022-2023” prepared by the journal Informatization of Education in China and defined by China’s Ministry of Education were used as the sampling frame. The results of the study showed that under the global digital transformation, Chinese universities have used social resources to complete the upgrade of their information systems, infrastructure, security and safety systems in five key areas, but there are still some challenges. In general, with the information support of the digital management platform, Chinese universities have begun to shift from the experience-based management to the big data-based management.

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a major burden in dialysis-dependent chronic kidney disease (CKD5D) patients. Several factors contribute to this vulnerability including traditional risk factors such as age, gender, life style and comorbidities, and non-traditional ones as part of dialysis-induced systemic stress. In this context, it appears of utmost importance to bring a closer attention to CVD monitoring in caring for CKD5D patients to ensure early and appropriate intervention for improving their outcomes. Interestingly, new home-used, self-operated, connected medical devices offer convenient and new tools for monitoring in a fully automated and ambulatory mode CKD5D patients during the interdialytic period. Sensoring devices are installed with WiFi or Bluetooth. Some devices are also available in a cellular version such as the Withings Remote Patient Monitoring (RPM) solution. These devices analyze the data and upload the results to Withings HDS (Hybrid data security) platform servers. Data visualization can be viewed by the patient using the Withings Health Mate application on a smartphone, or with a web interface. Health Care Professionals (HCP) can also visualize patient data via the Withings web-based RPM interface. In this narrative essay, we analyze the clinical potential of pervasive wearable sensors for monitoring ambulatory dialysis patients and provide an assessment of such toolkit digital medical health devices currently available on the market. These devices offer a fully automated, unobtrusive and remote monitoring of main vital functions in ambulatory subjects. These unique features provide a multidimensional assessment of ambulatory CKD5D patients covering most physiologic functionalities, detecting unexpected disorders (i.e., volume overload, arrhythmias, sleep disorders) and allowing physicians to judge patient's response to treatment and recommendations. In the future, the wider availability of such pervasive health sensing and digital technology to monitor patients at an affordable cost price will improve the personalized management of CKD5D patients, so potentially resulting in improvements in patient quality of life and survival.

Digital technology is rapidly transforming the financial services landscape. Payment networks are moving from cash and centralized control toward digital models that are faster and safer. Among the key innovations are blockchain and cryptocurrencies, two landscape-shaping technologies. They enable payments that are decentralized, transparent, and fast. This article conducts a literature review of international studies and cases focused on digital payment systems built on blockchain technology. It examines the evolution of these technologies, the settings in which they are deployed, and the challenges they raise. The review draws on academic research, case illustrations, and official reports to demonstrate how blockchain enhances security, speed, and trust in payments. It also evaluates risks, including market volatility, cybercrime, and difficulties with regulation. The analysis concentrates on the performance of digital currencies, central bank digital currencies (CBDCs), and cross border payments. By comparing country level practices, the paper offers insights, policy implications, and future opportunities. The study contends that when technology, regulation, and governance progress in alignment, blockchain and cryptocurrencies can enable a more inclusive and efficient payment system.
