Abstract

A series of novel coordination polymers {[M(H2O)4(4,4′-dpdo)][ClO4]2·2(4,4′-dpdo)}n (M = Co 1, Ni 2, Cu 3 or Zn 4; 4,4′-dpdo = 4,4′-bipyridine dioxide) have been synthesized and characterized by X-ray diffraction analysis. They are isomorphous and crystallize in the triclinic system and space group P. dpdo bridges the metal centers to form a covalent chain. Two solvate dpdo link these chains through hydrogen bonding to form two sets of three-dimensional networks which are interwoven through a common conjunctive point [M(H2O)4]2+, leading to three-dimensional open frameworks with triangular channels. ClO4− anions are included within these channels through weak C–H ⋯ O hydrogen bonding.
