Abstract

AbstractA novel family of inorganic aprotic superacids has been found. Oxochlorides and chloride of sulfur combined with aluminium halides (SOCl2·n AlX3, SO2Cl2·n AlX3, MeSO2Cl·n AlX3, CF3SO2Cl·n AlX3, S2Cl2·n AlX3; n = 2 or 3, X = Br or Cl) are found to be effective promoters for the cracking and isomerization of alkanes at room temperature.
