Abstract
A novel patch antenna array with integrated radiation and scattering performance is proposed and realized. Different from previous patch antenna array designs which mainly focus on radiation performance, this patch antenna array design takes both radiation and scattering properties into consideration in the designing process. Inspired by the design concept of artificial electromagnetic surface, the patch antenna unit is analyzed by using periodic boundary condition and desired reflection characteristics are achieved. Two different kinds of patch antenna units are designed and arranged in a chessboard configuration. Simulated and measured results prove that our method offers an effective strategy to design patch antenna array which achieves radiation and low-scattering performance simultaneously.
