Abstract

As we find ourselves living in what Theodor Adorno called a “fully administered” society, and macro-control units such as television, rock concerts and Maclean’s magazine reduce our human experience to pastiche and comic book characters, theatre is one possibility for artists and the public to engage in social research, to celebrate common rituals, to provide a form of community therapy or to allow catharsis in the face of unsolvable dilemmas of human existence.
