Abstract

Falcone et al. report in the Journal of Chemotherapy 1 that they found 47.5% resistance to teicoplanin in patients with bacteremia due to coagulase-negative staphylococci (CNS). We report here our data on teicoplanin resistance in CNS isolated from cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in Slovakia. We reviewed 158 cases of nosocomial meningitis occurring in children over a 12-year period and found that 92 were caused by CNS (61%), including S. epidermidis in 82 patients and 10 other CNS (S.
