Abstract
Calciphylaxis is an infrequent, life-threatening syndrome of vascular calcification characterized by occlusion of microvessels in the subcutaneous adipose tissue and dermis that results in skin necrosis, commonly encountered in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) on dialysis or those who have received a renal transplant. Diseases associated with nonuremic calciphylaxis include primary hyperparathyroidism, connective tissue disease, malignancy, and alcoholic liver disease. In this case report, we are describing a case of nonuremic calciphylaxis in the setting of a retroperitoneal abscess.
