Abstract

Numerical evidence is presented that two-dimensional motion of a large region of incompressible, inviscid fluid due to the motion of a point vortex in a rectangular container leaves does not stir certain finite regions. Such regions are formed by means of the Poincaré mapping in the regular domain for a nonintegrable Hamiltonian system of fluid particle motion.
