Abstract

We here consider a new move in the direction of Nehring’s approach to non-binary maximization [Econ. Lett. 50 (1996) 337; Econ. Lett. 63 (1999) 29] so that mixtures spaces [Econometrica 21 (1953) 291] can be incorporated naturally. The set of conditions that we shall set forth include the SSB model naturally, and permit to ensure that in every set spanned by a finite number of alternatives there is forcefully one that must be chosen, thus generalizing a celebrated result of SSB utility theory [cf. Econometrica 56 (1988) 1221].
