Abstract

Using 4-C Ocean Bottom Seismograph (OBS) technology GEOPRO Hamburg performed a sub-salt mapping experiment in the Nordkapp Basin, Barents Sea. We deployed twice 50 OBS nodes along a 50Km profile shooting inline at 50m spacing. The evaluation of the Common Station Gathers by tomography, forwards modeling and pre-stack depth migration revealed a velocity depth model of the Basin, mapping the basement structure below two salt domes. Furthermore we mapped an overhang of 600m width at a depth of approximately 1.2Km bsl at the southern end of the northern salt dome. It was seen that salt mobilization in this part of the Barents Sea follows basement uplifts. It is very probable that the halo kinetic processes, which created the salt domes, are associated with the formation of the basement geometry.
