No Dress Rehearsal

People of today live in a highly convergent time where they have invisible yet strong ties with others via networks. They have powerful tools to connect for the good of humanity, but these tools may also function to give harm. No one can deny the inevitable consequences of convergence which turns the previously passive media consumers into active participants of the media production processes. Thus, media literacy is of importance in order to reach ideal societies where people live humanely and have a voice in democracy without facing bad treatments such as discrimination and violence. Being media literate requires further steps to realize the necessary outcomes for a better world. This chapter must be considered a further step on its own part as it aims to raise awareness on the issues of discrimination and LGBTQ via the CBS/Netflix TV series Anne With an E, its certain characters, and its transmedial world. The series is believed to be highly instructive in a media classroom.
