Abstract

With a new-type mutual friction force introduced by us recently to explain the temperature distribution along the capillary of adiabatic flow of HeII, the normal fluid velocity vn has been calculated. It shows a very remarkable behavior in the net mass flow velocity dependence. In order to confirm the result, a NMR technique is applied to obtain the velocity of 3He atoms, v3, added to the system. It is found that there is a close similarity in the net mass flow velocity dependence between vn and v3. This supports the validity of our thermohydrodynamic description of adiabatic flow with a new-type mutual friction force.
