Abstract

The editors would like to report that the recently released 2015 ISI Journal Citation Reports (JCR) impact factor (IF) for Neurogastroenterology and Motility is 3.310. The ranking of the journal in the category Gastroenterology and Hepatology is 26/78, compared to 25/76 last year. Over the past 10 years, the IF has been oscillating slightly around 3.4, with the exception of 2012 when it dropped to 2.935. The temporary drop in IF in 2012 was explained by the decision in 2009 to increase the number of articles published in the journal. Although a higher IF should never be the primary aim of any journal, it is the duty of the editors to ensure that the journal is an attractive forum for high-quality scientific communications and the IF in part reflects the quality of the content of the journal. The editors have made several decisions in the last few years to ensure that our journal will continue to serve as a go to publication for both authors and readers in the field of Neurogastroenterology. We also strive to continue to make our journal a home for publications by members of the American Neurogastroenterology and Motility Society and the European Society of Neurogastroenterology and Motility. Every month a mini-review is published that accompanies an exceptional original article. In the mini-review, the findings of the original article it refers to are highlighted, and implications and future directions of the findings of study are discussed. Original articles are accompanied by key points summarizing the most important findings of the study; this allows readers to quickly scan articles for topics of interest. These key points are more to the point and have less overlap with abstracts and have therefore replaced the key messages that were used before. Most reviews are on topics carefully chosen by the Editors for their timeliness and impact, and they are written by individuals who have contributed to the original literature on those topics. Furthermore, schematic diagrams in the reviews are now redrawn by a medical illustrator. Before publication of each issue an article is selected for a podcast. Dr Adam Farmer interviews the senior author of the selected study and places the study into context. The podcasts are published online and available at no charge for all those who are interested. The stable IF is a reflection of the excellent state of our journal. Our journal is flourishing, thanks to the authors and readers. We thank you for your continued support of the journal.
