Abstract

This chapter introduces some new trends and challenges in the research and application of digital watermarking for printed materials. It discusses the new digital watermarking technology in Overview of Watermarking Technology”. The chapter introduces digital watermarking techniques used for printed materials, which is a very challenging topic in the digital right management system in “Watermarking Techniques for Printed Materials”. It also discusses watermarking techniques used for printed images by using a mobile camera phone, which may be the most challenging topic in new digital watermarking research and applications in “Extracting Watermark using Mobile Cameras”. As a traditional watermarking technique, a watermark is usually used as a mark to be implanted transparently into printed materials, such as a document, paper money, and so forth for the purpose of genuineness certification. Authentication is the second possible application for digital watermarking technology. Capability is an important feature for evaluating the performance of a watermarking scheme.
