Abstract
All those who have experimented with griseofulvin agree to its great usefulness in the treatment of mycoses produced by dermatophytes. Disaccord begins with criteria concerning toxicity, patterns of treatment, production of resistance, relapses, and its effectiveness in superficial mycoses other than dermatophytoses, or in deep mycoses. Although this report deals with the schemes of treatment in dermatophytoses, we consider it interesting to mention that, in our experience with the use of griseofulvin in some deep mycoses, it has proved useless in four cases of actinomycotic mycetoma produced by Nocardia brasiliensis, and in two cases of chromomycosis produced by Hormodendrum pedrosoi; at the same time, in two cases of sporotrichosis we obtained satisfactory results, comparable in all aspects to those obtained with potassium iodide.
