AbstractAmbroxol used as an expectorant in treating respiratory diseases was effectively prepared with a total yield of 62 %, with o-toluidine as the feedstock via successive procedures of electrophilic bromination, acetylation, radical benzylic bromination, N-alkylation and hydrolysis processes.
