Abstract

A new set of exact analytical solutions of the axisymmetric Magneto Hydro-Dynamic equations for stationary and incompressible flows is presented. The proposed method of solution allows to find simply the explicit analytic expressions of the magnetic and flow surfaces. The most relevant solution can be thought of as a plasma flow within a channel of variable width, whose radius oscillates periodically between two limiting values fixed by the total pressure. As periodicity is retained in all physical quantities, the model could give explanation to the “knotty” structure observed in the jet phenomenon.
