Abstract

Contrary to photons, slow neutrons are not dragged by moving matter (there is no Fresnel–Fizeau effect). This is proved in two different ways: (a) from the Lorentz transformation formulas, which have different limits for relativistic and nonrelativistic particles, and (b) by directly calculating the coherent scattering of slow neutrons by moving nuclei.
