Abstract

Comprehensive neutron diffraction measurements were performed to study the isostructural γ ↔ α phase transition in Ce0.9Th0.1 alloy. Using Rietveld refinements, we obtained lattice and thermal parameters as a function of temperature. From the temperature slope of the thermal parameters, we determined Debye temperatures =133(1) K and =140(1) K for the γ phase and the α phase, respectively. This result implies that the vibrational entropy change is not significant at the γ ↔ α transition, contrary to that from elemental Cerium [I.-K. Jeong, T.W. Darling, M.J. Graf et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 92 (2004) p.105702].
