Abstract

For the investigation and control of plasma-wall-interaction in TEXTOR heating by neutral injection is considered at this moment the most suitable means to elevate the bulk plasma ion temperature well beyond 1 keV and to influence radial plasma profiles. Under reasonable assumptions of plasma current and electron density profiles the influence of injection energy and geometry (injection angle towards plasma axis, distance above and angle against midplane) on the radial power deposition profile has been calculated. The choice of the appropriate injection energy is governed by the energy dependence of the charge exchange losses in the plasma as well as of the neutralization efficiency of the injector. The design provisions to permit the full range of desired injection parameters are discussed. A short description of the beam transport and cold gas flow calculations in the injector setting the frame for a detailed beam line design is given.
