Abstract

Neuromuscular disorders span a wide range of inflammatory, genetic and metabolic disease. Although most of them individually are rare, the sheer number of conditions means that neuromuscular issues are seen quite frequently in all intensive care units (ICUs). Clinically, they can be categorised into disorders where the initial presentation can require treatment in the ICU; chronic conditions where ICU treatment is needed to manage complications and acute exacerbations; and conditions that arise in the ICU.
