Abstract

AbstractThis chapter gives an overview of the different neurological and locomotory conditions affecting working equines (horses and donkeys). The clinical signs, diagnosis and treatment of these diseases are emphasized. The neurological locations and associated signs, approach to the equine neurological case, liver disease, hyperlipaemia, neonatal hypoxia, cerebral trauma, bacterial meningitis, abscess in the CNS, tetanus, botulism, equine grass sickness, equine herpes virus 1, toxic neurological conditions, electrolyte imbalance, equine motor neuron disease (EMND), equine protozoal myeloencephalitis (EPM), rabies and cauda equina syndrome are discussed.
