Abstract

Neurilemmoma is a benign tumor that develops from a disordered proliferation of Schwann cells. A 6-year-old female patient presented with a slow-growing submucosal nodule in the right buccal mucosa for 5 months; the child remained asymptomatic the child's mother. Clinical examination showed a palpable lesion covered by normal mucosa with fibroelastic consistency. With a diagnostic suspicion of a neural or glandular neoplasia, an incisional biopsy was performed. Histologic sections revealed a benign neural neoplasm, characterized by proliferation of spindle cells arranged diffusely or in an arrangement surrounding eosinophilic figures, in Antoni A and B patterns, confirming the diagnosis of neurilemmoma. The lesion was removed under local anesthesia. The patient remains under observation and presents no evidence of relapse 2 years after the surgery.
