Abstract

This Special Section is an outgrowth of a workshop on Network Reliability sponsored by the US National Science Foundation, and held at the Stevens Institute of Technology, Hoboken, New Jersey, 1983 August 24-26. This workshop was a sequel to a previous NSF-sponsored workshop on Large-Scale Networks, held at Northwestern University in 1974 April. One of the most important areas identified for further research at that time was that of network reliability. Since almost a decade had passed since then, it was deemed necessary to hold another meeting.
